We’re Creating a Cookbook

Rooted in the cultivation of Indigenous food sovereignty and elevating and preserving Indigenous Narratives, I-Collective is developing a Cookbook and Community Journal with supplemental Webinar Series to assist in strengthening the connection of our people to their food. Indigenous food sovereignty is critical because many health issues are tied to colonialism and the exploitation of resources, land, and people.

Hello,

World!

Our Vision

Food is our most intimate connection to ourselves, our ancestors, our communities, and most importantly, our future generations. Our vision is to increase visibility, own our foods and culture, and promote Indigenous ingredients and histories in our modern world.

Thank you for your interest in contributing to our new publication,
made by Indigenous people, for Indigenous people!

The I-Collective is looking for Indigenous Community Members, Scholars, Activists, Artists, Writers, and Indigenous Food Knowledge Holders who want to create meaningful content for a virtual Cookbook, Journal, and Educational Resource currently in development for publication.

The I-Collective stands for four principles: Indigenous, Inspired, Innovative, and Independent. An autonomous group of Indigenous chefs, activists, herbalists, seed, and knowledge keepers, the I-Collective strives to open a dialogue and create a new narrative that highlights not only historical Indigenous contributions, but also promotes our community's resilience and innovations in gastronomy, agriculture, the arts, and society at large.

All the work we publish reflects what we see as a sustained engagement with Intertribal Foodways, narrative change, and Indigenous Food Sovereignty.
The editors of this publication welcome unsolicited submissions and consider them all carefully. All topics relevant to Indigenous Food Sovereignty will be considered, with priority given to upcoming issue topics/ingredients. Currently we are actively curating content focusing on the following ingredients and their stories: Three Leaf Sumac, Yucca, Chiltepin, Walleye, Squash, and Chokecherry.

Because of limited staff time, we're not able to offer personalized feedback, but please know that we're grateful to each individual who shares work with us.
